Pregnant Kastor withdraws from NYC MarathonPublished by
Deena Kastor's pursuit of a first victory in the ING New York City Marathon has been put on hold as the 37-year-old withdrew from the Nov. 7 race on Thursday while also revealing that she is pregnant with her first child. "I was looking forward to returning to New York this fall to attempt to fulfill my longtime dream of winning there," Kastor said in a statement. "Since my marathon debut in 2001, winning the ING New York City Marathon has been on my list of running goals." Kastor, who was entered to return to New York for the first time since finishing sixth in 2006, is due in March of 2011. She joins a growing list of elite marathoners set to hit the maternity ward.
